In NORMAL chess, there are 4.
In other chess, depending on how many players there are, there is a minimum of 4 and more.
There are a total of four Rooks at the start of the game .
A fully set up chess board has, 2 Kings, 2 Queens, 4 Rooks, 4 Knights, 4 Bishops, and, 16 Pawns.
Rooks are pieces in chess that can move horizontally or vertically across the board for any number of squares. They are considered one of the most powerful pieces in the game due to their long-range capabilities. Each player starts with two rooks.
The components of Chess are the game board and the pieces. There are 6 different kinds of pieces: the king, the queen, the knights, the bishops, the rooks(castles), and the pawns.
At the start of a game there are 32 chessmen with 16 pieces for each side : 1 King , 1 Queen , 2 Bishops , 2 Knights , 2 Rooks and 8 Pawns .
The game is chess.
There are 32 pieces on the board at the start of a chess game. Each side begins with 16 pieces as follows: * 8 Pawns * 2 Rooks * 2 Knights * 2 Bishops * 1 Queen * 1 King There is a difference between 'pieces' and 'men' because pawns are generally not considered to be 'men.'
Chess
There are more pawns on the board than any other since each player has 8 pawns. However, sometimes pawns are not referred to as "pieces." They are simply pawns while all the other combatants including the rooks, knights, bishops, king and queen are called pieces. In that regard, there is no "piece" that is more numerous than any other. There are 2 rooks, 2 knights and 2 bishops, so they are all equal in number.
The game of chess begins with two kings on the board, one for each side. Neither side can ever have more than one king on the board, nor can either side ever have fewer than one king on the board. The king is the essence of the game. When one of the kings is checkmated, the game is over.
