To sail across the Atlantic from west to east, the best way is to pickup the Gulf Stream along the East Coast of the United States south of Cape Cod and sail in the Gulf Stream with the current across the Atlantic to Northern Europe making landfall around England. Sailing with the current in the Gulf Stream usuallly increases boat speed and sailing would be in warmer waters as the waters in the Gulf Stream are generally warmer than surrounding waters in the north Atlantic.
