For a cell phone it stands for "Mobile Directory Number"basically means that the Mdn number is basically your cell phone number.
Now,the Esn number("Electronic Serial Number") is what some wireless cell phone company's/government assistance providers/etc... needs so they can do&determine if your phone of your choice that you like to use on their service can be used with their carrier.
Usually, both Mdn# & Esn# are always needed and most of the time they can be found under your cell phone battery on a white strip for Cdma type phones.i hope this helps:-)
