Nurse shoes are more commonly known as clinic shoes, as clinical workers spend so much of the shift on their feet. These shoes are worn not only by nurses, both male and female, but by technicians and doctors, in fact, anyone else in the clinic who works long hours and cares about their feet.

Nursing shoes are usually white. Most styles are lace up, but are also available in slip on and clog style. They are low-heeled and have good arch support. The soles are usually made of a softer material than regular shoes, and a thicker sole that absorbs the shocks and pressures of walking long distances or standing for many hours.

There is no getting around the fact that clinical shoes are much more expensive than other kinds of shoes, such as sneaker or penny loafer styles. Usually, though, they are not as expensive as name brand Basketball shoes. The price could be compared to a name-brand cross trainer shoe, or quality walking-style or clog shoes. In fact, many clinical workers will wear the aforementioned styles, because they do have good support. However, for a more professional appearance, nursing staff will choose to wear name brand clinic shoes.

Whatever style of shoes clinic personnel prefer, what they refuse to wear are cheap shoes such as discount store sneakers or loafers. Experienced workers know that saving money on shoes equals fatigue, pain, and in the end, deformities of the foot, such as bunions, that are caused by cheap shoes.

Nursing shoes should be easy to maintain, with a surface that can be wiped clean with a sponge or wet paper towel. Choose a shoe that can be easily polished, and do so at least once a week to keep them looking fresh and professional. Buy shoes that will accommodate socks, as they will absorb perspiration. Try on shoes after a shift, when feet are the size they are after being on them all day.

With the right choice of clinic footwear, pain and exhaustion will cease to ruin your work day, and more importantly, your family time after work. Pay a little more now for the correct shoes, and reap the benefits for months to come.
