Sure, it would be much better for the people watching it.... but lets not forget who actually has money involved.
The truth is, the sponsors are what is driving the Super Bowl. Advertisers spend millions of dollars for 30 second advertisments. The advertisers want as many people to see the ads AND REMEMBER the ads as possible. If the Super Bowl was on a Saturday evening, most football fans would be at bars or house parties getting their drunk on. By keeping the Super Bowl on a Sunday, early evening, it ensures that most people will try to stay realitivly sober because they have work in the morning. It also ensures that it isn't just a sausage fest of drunken arm chair quarterbacks. By having it on a Sunday, entire families are more likely to watch.
If you were going to spend $3,000,000 for a 30 second comercial, who would you rather be watching it? A bunch of drunk men in a bar, or families of semi-sober people on their couch in the living room?
The TV networks don't care what's convienient to you... they know you are going to tune in to watch the Super Bowl anyways... its the most watched program on TV. What the do care about is making sure the sponsors are happy, and that means making sure you stay sober enough to remember the comercials come Monday morning.
Also, one more point: Holding the Super Bowl on Saturday would be a disgrace to the history of football. It's a Sunday sport.
