In the NHL, should a game go to a shootout the team that wins the shootout gets 2 points and the team that loses gets 1 point.
It counts as a loss. However, in the NHL, a team that loses in overtime or the shootout gets 1 point in the standings. The team that wins always gets 2 points. Regulation losses earn 0 points.
It stand for Overtime Loss. A tie in regulations gives each team one point and the winner in OT or the shootout gives the winning team 2 points and a Win.
If the teams are tied after 3 periods (regulation time), the game goes to a 5-minute sudden-death overtime period. If they are still tied, a shootout is held, with 3 shooters per team. Once a team has more goals in the shootout, they are awarded one goal for the final result. The winning team gets 2 points, counted as a regular win. A team losing in overtime gets 1 point, counted in the Overtime Loss column. Some papers still list Overtime Losses and Shootout Losses separately, but they're both worth 1 point, and the NHL makes no such distinction.
No. Technically the game can end in a tie if no team scores in the extra 5 minute overtime period, but the current rules require a shootout to determine the winner of the game. Each team gets a point in the season standings for the tie at the end of regulation and the shootout team winner gets an extra point.
None. Ties stopped being recorded prior to the 2005-2006 season, when the shootout was introduced to specifically eliminate tie games. All NHL games must now end with a clear winner and loser, although teams that lose in overtime or shootout still receive one point in the standings for not losing in regulation.
In the NHL teams play regular games during the season. The 8 teams from each division with the most points at the end of the season get to play in the playoffs (2 points for a win, 1 point for a loss in overtime and 0 for a loss). In the playoffs two teams compete in a best of 7 tournament. The winner gets to play in the next round against another team, the loser starts training for the next season. The team that wins all their best of 7 tournaments win the stanly cup. Also in a regular season game if there is a tie at the end of the game they go into ONE overtime period and then a shootout (teams shoot 3 times the team with goals win if still tied after 3 shots teams take turns until they score) IN A PLAYOFF GAME after one period of overtime THERE IS NO SHOOTOUT. They just play another period of overtime. (In overtime for both types of games both teams have 4 players on the ice instead of 5.) I hope that answers your question! :D
Three-Point Shootout was created in 1985.
Until last year a team with 32 wins, 33 losses and 5 ties would have a total of 69 points. Starting last year though the NHL put in the shootout to determine the winner of the tied game. Now there are no ties but the team that loses still gets 1 point and the winning team gets 2. I believe its called an overtime loss for the team that loses, so they are still kind of getting 1 point for the tie but then they play 5 minutes of overtime. If there is no score in the overtime then they go into the shootout to determine the winner. Hope I was of some help, JD
Teams get 2 points for a win and 1 point for an overtime or shootout loss. You get no points for a regulation loss.
Nash has never won the shootout.
An NHL team gets 2 points for a win, 0 points for a loss, and 1 point for an overtime loss.
