It's simple, really. Channel 7 are unaware that the internet and the wireless have been invented. Anyone with an interest in the game (avid fans of one team or those having a punt) must lock themselves in an air tight vault for several hours before the game is broadcast on 7, so as not to hear the score. Because 7 have the broadcast rights, FoxSports can't show the game until after 7's coverage has commenced. So in WA, 7 start the game at 8:30pm - about an hour after the game is OVER, and fox start it a couple of minutes later. Humorously, 7's telecast runs until midnight, while Fox's finishes before 11pm. Fox offer the game live on Main Event, but only to the NT and QLD , where 7 don't show the AFL. Not to worry though, ask any AFL fan and they'll tell you: We'd much rather sit through the news (old stories from the morning paper), then Today Tonight (some dodgy immigrant brickies and some fat diabetic kids)then Home and Away (rivitting, absolutely rivetting) then an hour of Better Homes and Gardens(Joanna Grieg's ridiculous horse head with the araldite smile is a big winner). The solution: the AFL needs to make live telecast a condition of the broadcast rights. Problem solved.
