People attend the Super Bowl for different reasons, among them the fact that the annual National Football League championship game is one of the biggest events of the year. It's a worldwide shared experience on Super Sunday, which is the closest thing to an American holiday.
Some people attend the Super Bowl to cheer for their favorite teams. Others have NFL connections and are able to obtain tickets from the league, players or television networks. It's also a matter of civic pride for residents of the Super Bowl site to show up whenever possible.
There are even extreme cases of avid fans who will swarm to the Super Bowl's host city, despite the fact that they do not have tickets. Many of them simply want to experience the festive atmosphere and root for their teams.
