Yes, they can, but only up to a certain age. I played football regularly with a boys team until the end of my u11 season. Different leagues have different rules about how old a girl can be until she has to play for a girl's team, but it's usually around the age of 11-12. This is because puberty (which comes at around this age in most children) makes the boys stronger and faster (reaping obvious benefits in a physical game like football). They will be able to kick the ball further in most cases. In terms of technique and skill, generally, girls are capable of being as good as boys. Some are better, some worse. The reason quite a lot of boys are better than girls is that they begin playing at a younger age, thus sparking the belief that 'girls can't play football'. You should definitely ignore this sexist remark if it comes your way. If you are a girl and you want to play with boys, by all means continue to do so until you have to join a girl's side. Enjoy yourself! Hope I helped :) x
