Because he entered the pro draft after high school! his high school team won states and he was a one man team! he was thought to be to advanced for college and he wanted to go to the nba. in his rookie year he became the youngest player in league history to score at least 40 points in a game. also is this year He joined Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game in their rookie season.
