You can... to an extent. Skill position players such as QB's, WR's and CB's have very large ranges of motion, but the larger shoulder pads and facemasks used by the linemen limit the lateral movement considerably. As a safety measure, most players cannot tilt their heads back too much. The cut-out on the back of the helmet lines up with the back of the shoulder pads, so that with proper positioning a decent amount of the impact is absorbed by the shoulders.

i haven't had problems with my 98 reverse, but my other gears have acted up. i believe that it might be the syncronizer. i sometimes cant get in 2nd or 4th gear. i have to shift it back and forth to work it in. SO, i might be having the same problem. a mechanic told me to either change the transmission fluid or to go ahead and get the syncronizer checked out. i haven't had problems with my 98 reverse, but my other gears have acted up. i believe that it might be the syncronizer. i sometimes cant get in 2nd or 4th gear. i have to shift it back and forth to work it in.
