South Carolina does not have an NFL franchise because it has traditionally lacked the major population centers. However, with a rapidly growing population and three major cities (Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston) it may become concievable for South Carolina to host a franchise sometime within the next decade.

However, with the expansion of the NFL (including the Charolette based Carolina Panthers) and the relocation of the Oilers to Tennessee as the Titans, and the Atlanta Falcons, South Carolina is regionally crowded. While it is less crowded than the North East, it does not have the same population density as that region which allows it to support the numerous teams that it does.
