The Indians have never been known as the Spiders. The Cleveland Spiders were a National League team between 1889-1899. They were contracted after the 1899 season along with teams from Washington, Baltimore, and Louisville. When the new American League team in Cleveland was formed in 1901, they were known as the Blues. They were the Bronchos in 1902 and the Naps from 1903-1914 before settling on the Indians in 1915.
