As best as I can tell, 35 World Series have ended in a 4 games to three victory. This happened every year from 1955 to 1958. In 1920, the series ended at 5 games to 2 (it was a nine-game series); so I suppose that counts.

no it used to be 9 games but after the white sox threw the 1919 WS and Baseball got a commisoner one of many changes was the lenght of the WS.

An example might be a double header. In some leauges two 9 inning games are to much for the players. Therefore they only play 7 innings.
