The Australian Sydney Roosters is a National Rugby League team founded in 1908 in Paddington, Sydney. It's original name was Eastern Suburbs (nickname: Tricolours). In 1967, with Jack Gibson as their coach, they wore a new emblem on their jerseys - the rooster. Underneath were the words "Easts to Win". In 1995 the team name became the Sydney City Roosters, which was shortened in 2000 to Sydney Roosters. The name "Roosters" came from the fact that the team plays hard to win. They are ferocious in their game plan, and known for their fierce rivalries with other teams, especially the Rabbitohs.
