personally from a catcher as myself, softballs he are called softballs because of the size, color, and how hard it is, of course for womens softballl the ball is usually yellow with red stitching. the softball is clearly ten times larger than a regular Baseball. at some times such as high school softball the ball has a soft leather outer skin but for the professionals its called the rules that it must have a hard texture.

the soft ball is easy er to hit.

i don't not why but i think a soft ball travels more fast in the air

Not sure the above is even an answer.

Two different albeit similar games. One uses a diff ball, diff bats, diff gloves, diff field distances, diff pitching techniques.

**The above does not answer the question. Baseball and softball are two similar but different games. Size alone does not make it easier to hit, a fastpitch softball pitcher is closer to the batter than a baseball pitcher giving the batter far less time to "look it over" to determine if they should swing. Fastpitch pitches can travel at around 70 mph from approx 40-some feet depending upon the age of the players. A baseball pitcher is 60 or more feet away. I'm not sure how those distances vary by age.

Softballs are different sizes because many different ages of girls play softball. A 9 year old girl could not grip a softball the an 18 year old plays with. It is to help all age levels play the sport.

Study's show that a softball is much bigger than baseball, because girls have a better throwing arm than guys tend to have.
