technically, there was no 1970 Gator Bowl. The Gator Bowl was played in December of 1969 following the 1969 season.......and then the participants selected at the conclusion of the 1970 season played the next Gator Bowl on Jan 1, 1971. Those two teams were Auburn University & The University of Mississippi.
Following the 1971 season, the Gator Bowl returned to a late December date so there were two 1971 Gator Bowls.
