The 1959 FA Cup final, which took place on May 2, was won 2 - 1 by Nottingham Forest, beating Luton Town. Though Nottingham Forest went 2 - 0 up in the early stages of the game, the scorer of the first goal, Roy Dwight, was carried off the field in the 33rd minute, having broken his leg in a tackle with Brendan McNally.

Though Dave Pacey grabbed a 66th minute goal for Luton Town, this was to prove purely a consolation goal.

Dwight was a cousin of singer Elton John.
