Bob Montgomery.
Montgomery was a catcher for the Boston Red Sox between 1970-1979. The rule making helmets mandatory was made in 1971. Those players that played on an MLB roster prior to 1971 were not made to wear a helmet while batting if they chose not to do so. Montgomery didn't and played his entire career without wearing one.
Montgomery's last plate appearance came on September 8, 1979 in a game against the Baltimore Orioles.
He was a Major League Baseball player.
The major sports that use helmet cams during their broadcasts are typically NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball. You will note that these are all American sports.
