Bob Lilly === That is not correct. Lilly was the Cowboys' first draft pick, but that was in 1961. The 1960 team was stocked via an expansion draft. They got 32 players from other NFL teams, but it wasn't in a round-by-round draft. The Cowboys did not participate in the college draft because they were awarded the franchise after the college draft was held.

So its hard to say who was the FIRST Cowboy.

Oilman Clint Murchison, Jr., and Bedford Wynne were the first owners of the Dallas Cowboys when they received the rights to the new National Football League franchise in 1959. Murchison later sold the team to another oilman, H.R. "Bum" Bright.

If you mean what is the name of the first pro football team in Dallas, it was the Dallas Texans of the American Football League. They later moved to Kansas City and renamed to the Chiefs.
