The 1996 Cricket World Cup final was contested between Australian and Sri Lanka on March 17, 1996. Sri Lanka won the match by 7 wickets.

The highest score of the innings was acheived by Aravinda de Silva, who, in spite of not playing for a first-class team at that particular time, had been representing Sri Lanka since 1984 in Test matches. De Silva scored 107 not out, the third century in a World Cup final, and the first in seventeen years.
