Mark Hughes and Brian McClair both scored in the first game of the 94/95 FA Premier League season. I don't know who scored first. (The FA Charity Shield was played before this game in which Eric Cantona and Paul Ince scored.)

They beat five teams. Back then the European Cup as with all European competitions was a knock out competition, played on a home and away basis. In the first round they beat Hibernians of Malta 4-0 on aggregate. In round two Sarajevo of what was then Yugoslavis 2-1 on aggregate, The quarter final Gornik Zabrze of Poland 2-1 on aggregate. Semi final Real Madrid 4-3 on aggregate. and in the Final they beat Benfica of Portugal 4-1 after extra time.
