"I like AFL better out of them both. But I will admit that NRL is popular to. But NRL will finish in around 10 years and they say AFL will go on for over fifty years.
So my answer is, AFL is more popular."
-Guy Before Me
Alright, let me improve on this answer by first saying, the guy above is a bloody idiot. NRL has lasted 100 years, it ain't gonna end in another 10 unless something happen along the line of a nuclear war or the sun exploding...
The reason why NRL is far more popular is:
#In 2006, the highest sale of ANY sporting Jersey was of the Canterbury Bulldogs, an NRL, They topped nay other football team, even the State Of Origin Blue or the Rugby Union Wallabies!
#NRL has much higher TV ratings. The NRL Grandfinals Oblideterates the AFL Grandfinal Nationally, Australians most viewed event of the year (not just sports, I mean anything) is the State Of Origin.
#The Two Most Populated States in Australia are NSW and QLD, both of which Are VERY dominated by NRL. VIC is Dominated by AFL and so is WA, SA and TAS, but all of the last three combined doesn't even have half of the population QLD does. Vic is also the least populated out of NSW, QLD and itself...
The only thing AFL has over NRL is it's Game attendance. An average AFL agme gets about 25-30 thousands, wher as NRL gets 25-30 thousand, but theres a big reason:
A) NRL's most support comes from the western suburbs of Sydney, the poorest general area in Australia,
B) AFL has much better membership packages. eg. an avg NRL membership would cost $200 for all home game whereas AFL cost $300 for home and away games, in other words twice as many games. So if you half the 300 bux because you get twice as many games, you now only have $150, that's a lot more money to some poorest people in Australia (according to the 2006 cenus standard of living)
But anyway, Football (soccer) is gonna be competing for top spot within the near future...

I agree, the call of NRL falling over in ten years is a little silly (but don't forget the 'super-league' fiasco and what they did to Melbourne Storm in 2010). Need to check the rest of your claims, unconvincing.
AFL and NRL Grand Finals average TV audience is within 300,000 people most years. However, AFL is played over 3 hours, (NRL 2) and peaks at over a million more (2010: 5.6million and 5.7 million viewers GF1&2 respectively), NRL 4.2 million.
Collingwood Football club has second highest attendance of any club in the world (after Manchester United) for 2010 (standard AFL membership more than $500 annually).
V/AFL and SANFL histories among the longest continually running competitions in the world, predating the various Rugby Leagues and the FA Cup.
NRL: Two states, one territory (54% pop but have four top-tier AFL teams and AFL is third most popular sport by participant no.s)
AFL: Four states, one territory (trying to make state) (46% pop but have 2? (I heard somewhere there was a team in Adelaide?) top-tier NRL teams, Union/League are 12th most popular sport combined by participant no.s)
Guy second from the top ur a nut case AFL is Australia's only sport so if you think NRL is better your a dick
IMPROVEMENT:
The AFL is by far the most attended sport in Australia with 7,145,488 people attending AFL matches in 2010 at an average of 38,417 per match. Collingwood averaged 63,917 per match. NRL number are FAR behind with a total attendance of 3,338,231 at an average of 17,756. Brisbane Broncos average 35,032 people per match.
There were 29 regular season games in the AFL with higher attendance than the highest NRL attended match.
The 2010 AFL Grand Final was watched by a 5 city average of 2.76 million viewers. The replay average 2.09 million viewers.
Finally, in a 2009 survey of 1500 people across Australia 21% nominated Australian Rules (AFL) as their favourite sport. Rugby League (NRL) was second with 12%
To me this says the AFL is more popular.
AFL isn't unsuitable. There is anything wrong with it. It overtook the populairty of NRL.
AFL is Australia's most popular sport. The Sucess overtook NRL and Cricket.
They play in the NRL - not the AFL. But they havent won any NRL premierships either.
AFL. more people watch, more people play, more money for playing, more skills, more fitness, more courage, more brains, more football. How is rugby better?Answer:Well, the live NRL game I saw looked much cleaner and in better behaviour...Otherwise, in general, I'd agree with your listLOL!NRL is of couse better, AFL is crap, all players are always on the news of rape such as that players from saints. NRL treats all their young guns fairly, and they care about rugby league clubs alot.
Roughly the same as NRL... They're two of the most watched sports in Australia,
AFL (Australian Football League) NRL (National Rugby League)
Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau have both joined the AFL. Hunt will play for the Gold Coast and Folau for Greater Western Sydney.
nrl memrobillias are worth the money because they bring back memories of players
Australia's main sport is cricket, followed by AFL - Australian Rules football (not soccer).
We play cricket, NRL (National Rugby League) and AFL (Australian Football league) mainly
Anything is better than soccer AFL and NRL, you cant compare it to soccer.
