The highest run scorer in one innings of test cricket is Brian Lara (400* vs England at St Johns, April 10 2004), however for one match of test cricket the record belongs to Graham Gooch of England. Against India at Lords on the 26th July 1990, Gooch hammered 333 in the first innings, following it up with 123 in the second to total his match run tally at 456 runs. The next closest is Mark Taylor's 426 against Pakistan at Peshawar, 1998, when he played a fine innings of 334*, then following it up with 92. Brian Lara's 400 is third on the list, the highest on the list compromising of only one innings.
