The first teams ever for the United States Major League Baseball were the Black stockings, the White Stockings, and the Red Stockings. The Black Stockings retired, the White Stockings moved from it's original town, and the Red Stockings (now known as the Red Sox) stayed in it's original place, making the Red Sox the oldest team in Baseball.
There were actually 16 original MLB Teams-
The National Association was the first major league in baseball and was founded in 1871. There were nine teams that played in that first year. 1) Boston Red Stockings
2) Chicago White Stockings
3) Cleveland Forest Citys
4) Fort Wayne Kekiongas
5) New York Mutuals
6) Philadelphia Athletics
7) Rockford Forest Citys
8) Troy Haymakers
9) Washington Olympics
Of those nine teams, only two of them have played in major league baseball for every year since 1871. They are the Boston Red Stockings, now the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago White Stockings, now the Chicago Cubs.
