The A's officially have three rivals: the Seattle Mariners, the LA Angels of Anaheim, and the Texas Rangers. This is because those three teams are all in the A's division. Out of those three teams, the rivalry with the Angels is by far the most intense. Additionally, the A's have an unofficial rivalry with the Boston Red Sox. This is due to their numerous playoff encounters, and the fact that the Red Sox fans often outnumber A's fans when the teams play in Oakland.
The Boston Red Sox.
THE rivalry began over 100 years ago. Ever since, it has taken on a life of its own! It starts with the owners, the front office, the coaching staff, the players, right down to the their fans, (past & present). Unlike some other rivalries, these two teams have never re-located, to, or from another city since their inception into the league. With the exception of numbers being added to the jersey's back, their basic team uniforms have remained the same since before the Titanic sunk! I feel no other rivalry can match this historic, Boston Red Sox - New York Yankeerivalry.
Especially when in 2004, the Red Sox made MLB playoff history as the first team ever to comeback from a 0-3 games deficit to win the American League Championship Series. Oh, BTW, their opponent was the New York Yankees. That historic comeback enabled them to go on to win their first World Series in 86 years by sweeping the Cardinals. The Red Sox followed up their 2004 Championship with World Series titles in 2007 and 2013.
To me, this rivalry is not only the best in MLB, but in all American pro sports.
I believe the Oakland Raiders are the Kansas City Chiefs biggest rival. The Chiefs lead the all time series 59-51-2 as of the 2013 season and lead 2-1 in playoff matches.
I would say the Jets traditional rival has been Miami, but with more recently, due to the whole Bilichek and Mangini relationship (and Parcells coming to the Jets from the Pats earlier) New England is also a pretty rivalry at this time, but historically, it has been Miami.
They do not have a big rival like Yankees/Red Sox or Dodgers/Giants. However, their biggest rival is probably the Los Angeles Angels. The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics are also rivals because they are all in the AL West together. Another is the San Diego Padres, who play the Mariners every year in interleague play.

There's really only one city named Oakland, and it's in California. There are, however, many American towns named Oakland. There's an Oakland in Alabama, Florida (Oakland and Oakland Park), Illinois (Oakland and Oakland Township), Indiana, Iowa (Oakland and Oakland Acres), Kansas (2 Oaklands), Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan (Oakland and Oakland Charter Township), Minnesota (Oakland and 2 Oakland Townships), Missouri, Nebraska (Oakland and Oakland Township), New Jersey, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania (2 Oaklands and 3 Oakland Townships), Rhode Island (Oakland and Oakland Beach), Tennessee, Texas (6 Oaklands), Virginia (Oakland Park), and Wisconsin (3 Oaklands). Additionally, there's Oaklands in the Canadian provinces of Ontario (2 Oaklands and an Oakland Township), Manitoba, and Nova Scotia. Adding all of these up these up gives 48 towns named Oakland.
