Len Bias, the first-round draft pick of the Boston Celtics on
June 17, 1986, died two days later because of heart problems
stemming from an overdose of cocaine. The All-American forward from
the University of Maryland was 22 years old.
On July 27, 1993, Celtics forward and team captain Reggie Lewis,
the Celtics' first-round draft pick in 1987, died of a heart attack
during an offseason workout at Brandeis University. He was 27 years
old.
