Don Meredith, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, first coined the term while working as a broadcaster for Monday Night Football. The saying, however, became popularized when jimmy Johnson said it in the locker room after the Cowboys defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game following the 1992 season.
