I want to say it was YA Tittle of the 49 ers but I cnat find a ref to confirm this answer Close. R.C. Owens, wide receiver for the 49ers, Colts, and Giants between 1957-1964, which nicknamed Alley Oop for his jumping ability. Tittle and Owens were teammates on the 49ers between 1957-1960.
