The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were named after the Disney film The Mighty

Ducks. Disney was the owner of the team from the team's first year in 1993 until 2005, when the Mighty Ducks were sold to Henry and Susan Samueli. The new owners removed the "Mighty" from the team's name before the 2006-07 season and it is currently the Anaheim Ducks. Many commented that it was ironic that the year the "Mighty" was taken away, the team proved it was mighty and went on to capture the Stanley Cup.
