Kansas City, Missouri has been ranked the 16th most dangerous city in the United States because of certain neighborhoods. The East Side is a total criminal area, and Independence is too. (both are on the eastern side of the city). Kansas CIty, Kansas is almost totally criminal, unless you move way out to the western city limits in a very nice area named Village West. However, Kansas City North (not North Kansas City, that is an independent city, even though Kansas City North includes NKC.) is like a total different world compared to Kansas City. It is beautiful up here, except in a little older part of the Northland towards Southeast Platte County (Riverside, Houston Lake, etc.), but in almost all Clay County, and north of there in Platte County, and it is very rare for crime in the Northland, and it is very suburby. So if you want to live in Kansas City, move to the Northland part of Kansas City, and if you want to move to a suburb, move to either Lee's Summit, Johnson County KS, or the Northland. Very safe in these places.
No, Kansas City is not the only city in Kansas.
