Handley never coached again. Before he took the head coaching job at the Giants, he had planned to leave the NFL and return to Standford and go to Law School. Parcels left unexpected, having serious health problems--his doctors told him he would die if he kept coaching and didnt have serious heart operations that season-- and Handley who had been assistant head coach took over. Handley was favored by Giant manager George Young, a cerebral, big minded intellectual like Handley who had a genius IQ and mathmatical mind.
Handley has refused to make any comments to anyone who wants to talk to him about his career in football since he was fired by the Giants.'
