She lived on base (Randolph AFB) where her father was stationed and initially went to school on base in 6th grade, but later moved off base and attended middle school in 7th grade in the N.E.I.S.D. at John H. Wood. She played two years of soccer in San Antonio playing U12 and U13 for NEYSO teams in the infancy of competitive girls soccer in San Antonio. She played with girls who went on to be part of the early years of a decade of girls soccer dominance at San Antonio's Madison High School, where they played in eight state final fours, five state finals, winning two UIL 5A state championships between 1986-1995. Her father was reassigned to the AFB in Wichita Falls, TX and she attended the private Catholic middle and high school Notre Dame from 8th-10th grade, winning a TAPPS high school state championship and even playing on the boy's football team in 8th grade. Her final two years of high school were spent in Virginia where she won two more high school state titles before going to college at UNC.
