OK I'm not a Redskins hater and I mean no disrespect but I know the chorus to the Deadskins song (the rest of the song is kind of stupid): Hail to the Deadskins! No victory! We can't score touchdowns! We just go for three!
A Cowboys owner did once. Supposedly, the Cowboys' prospective owner Clint Murchison traded the rights to the song for Redskins' owner George Preston Marshall's support for an NFL franchise in Dallas in 1960.
It almost didn't happen at all. George Preston Smith, owner of the Redskins, blocked Dallas' entrance until Dallas bought the rights to Washington's fight song,"Hail to the Redskins". They forbade Smith to use it if he continued to block Dallas' entrance into the league.
The only reason I have ever heard is that the skins didn't want the cowboys in pro football. Somehow, the cowboys owner obtained the rights to the redskins "Hail to the Redskins" fight song and used it as ransom for the skins to agree to play them in pro ball. Don't take this as fact, though... do some more research.
