Players are first eligible for the Hall of Fame five years after they retire. I would think he will be elected in his first eligible year, so I would say he will enter the Hall of Fame five years after he retires.

No.

Once Favre retires, he will have to wait five seasons before he can be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Sometimes, a great player who played with a team for many years and then left will sign a one day contract with that team to announce their retirement. This is more for show than anything else and has nothing to do with a player's ability to get elected to the Hall of Fame.
