In 1989, they lost to the Oakland Athletics in four games. In 2002, they lost to the then-Anaheim Angels in seven games. In 2010, the Giants finally won a world championship for the Bay Area, defeating the Texas Rangers in five games. They succeeded again in 2012, sweeping the Detroit Tigers in four games. The Giants won their third world championship in 2014, defeated the Kansas City Royals in seven games in the 110th World Series.

Before 1969, the Giants won the 1962 National League pennant in a three-game playoff with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They advanced to the World Series, but lost to the New York Yankees in seven games.
As of 2007, the Giants have made the playoffs in three consecutive seasons.

The last time the Giants swept the Eagles during the regular season was in 2007.
The last time that all three of those NFC East teams missed the playoffs was after the 2013 season. The Philadelphia Eagles won the title with a 10-and-6 record. The Dallas Cowboys were second at 8-8, followed by the New York Giants at 7-9 and the Washington Redskins at 3-13.
