In 2011, the Detroit Lions finally broke futility and made the play-offs for the first time since 1999. They went 10-6 and finished 2nd in the NFC North, but made the wild card. They lost to the New Orleans Saints 45-28.
No. However, during the strike season of 1982, the NFL increased the number of playoff teams to 16. The Lions made the playoffs with a 4-5 record as a wildcard. They lost in the wildcard round to the Washington Redskins, 31-7.

The Lions seem to be rapidly improving, however, it will be tough for the Lions to make the playoffs, especially if there isn't football this year
To me there are several factors that will aide in answering that question.
1. The health of Matt Stafford. If he plays all 16 games this year the Lions will be very good.
2. The offensive line. Our O-Line is not that good and if it cannot protect Matt Stafford all that well then we are in trouble
3. The running game. The Lions lost rookie RB Mikel Leshoure for the entire season and Jahvid Best is not an every down back. Some backups have show promise like Jerome Harrison.
4. The run defense. Our pre season opponents ran the ball very well on the Lions and if there is no run defense then that puts pressure on the secondary.
5. The secondary. We have a terrific front four on defense and it should rattle opposing QB's. However if opposing teams can run on the Lions defense then this will allow the other teams to rachete up the passing game and that is not good for the Lions secondary as it looks like our secondary is one of the worst in the league.
Only time will tell if the Lions make the playoffs in 2012 but if they can master these five steps then the chances are very good.
The Detroit Tigers last made the playoffs in 2011. Prior to that, it was 2006.
Detroit Lions
If I had to take a guess I'd have to say Cleveland Browns.Well, believe it or not, the Browns made the playoffs in 2002-2003. The answer is actually a tie, as the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions have not made the playoffs since the 1999-2000 season. The Houston Texans have never made the playoffs, but they only began play in 2002.
As of the 2008 season, that was the 1999 season when the Lions made the playoffs as a wild card team. They lost in the Wild Card round to the Washington Redskins, 27-13.
As of the 2008 season, the Lions last made the playoffs in the 1999 season when they went 8-8 and made it in as a wild card team. They lost in the wild card round to the Washington Redskins, 27-13, but they will soon!!!!
The Detroit Lions made the playoffs in '08 and they went 0-16.
it depends on when last year was if 2009 17
The last time that two teams from the AL Central both made the playoffs was 2006, where the Minnesota Twins won the division and the Detroit Tigers took the Wild Card.
Detroit Red Wings just made the playoffs for the last 23 years in a row
The last time the Pacers made the playoffs was 2012.
Detroit
