The first six nations was in 2000 which England won. Before that it was called five nations because Italy wasnt involved until 2000. There were four nations from 1883 to 1910, and then France joined.

the inaugural Home International Championship, comprising England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales was played in 1883. Then France officially joined in 1910 making it the % Nations however France was suspended from the even between 1931 to 1939 because of the World War 1 Things were again halted until 1947 because of the 2nd world war. Then in 2000 Italy joined the event changing the name to The 6 Nations

The Five Nations Trophy became the Six Nations Championship following the inclusion of Italy in to the event in 2000.
