There was a rule in MLB that, if one played in the World Series, they could not play exhibition games during the offseason to supplement their income. After the 1921 World Series, which Ruth and the Yankees lost to the New York Giants, he went on a tour of exhibition games. As punishment for breaking the rules, Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis suspended Ruth for the first six weeks of the 1922 season.
