The first weekend in January is the final week of the NFL's 2009 regular season. The playoffs continue through January, and the Super Bowl will be played on Sunday, February 7th.

In previous years, the Pro Bowl was played after the Super Bowl; this season, the Pro Bowl comes up the weekend before the Super Bowl (a change which has drawn a great deal of criticism).
