The 2010 DeMarini Vendetta is a full composite bat, which means it does not meet the new NFHS rules that permit only hybrid (half and half) bats and exclude full composite bats. I cannot speak to those specific rules of football, but in general, lineman are allowed to be downfield on any pass where the ball is caught BEHIND the line of scrimmage.
The way "fair catch" is defined under NFHS rules (2-9-1), the receiver must give a valid signal AND must also make the catch before it can be called a "fair catch." If the ball hits the ground, there is no fair catch and therefore no protection for the receiver is warranted.
