Crickets bats are usually made from willow. The best cricket bats are made from English willow. Cheaper bats, however, are not made from English willow. They are made from a cheaper willow that tends to crack easily.

There are a number of woods that you can use to make a cricket bat, but Willow is the most common.

Kashmir willow is used for lower level bats such as juniors cricketers where English willow is used for higher levels of play. English willow varies in grades with hand selected grade 1 being the best. The higher the grade English willow the softer the wood leading to greater power, however the softer wood means a smaller bat lifespan.
