The original names for the Major League Baseball team that is currently (as of October 2009) known as the Atlanta Braves are the Boston Red Caps, the Boston Beaneaters, the Boston Doves, the Boston Rustlers, the Boston Braves, the Boston Bees and the Milwaukee Braves.
Atlanta was originally known as Terminus, reflecting its role as a transportation hub where several railroads converged. It was later renamed Marthasville before finally becoming Atlanta in 1847. The name "Atlanta" is derived from "Atlantic," referencing the Atlantic Ocean and the city's connection to the railroad.
The original Braves franchise began in Boston, moved to Milwaukee and then to Atlanta.
