His achievements were starting colonization in the New World that is America today, though he believed that he was the first European to set foot on the Americas, which turned out to be a misconception, for many Europeans throughout history have set his butt on this land, like the Vikings. He had claimed land for Spain in the southern areas afterwards. He also discovered the islands of Jamaica, Guadeloupe and Puerto Rico on one of his voyages. And though probably not the first to do this, he attempted to reach Asia by taking a westward voyage.
he found america and was the first man to go west instead of finding asia
