The Yankees were a charter team in the American League when it became a major league in 1901. In 1903 the team moved to New York and their name became The Highlanders. In 1913 they changed their name to the Yankees..The Yankees Stadium was first built in 1923 and is not going to be used after the 2008 season. A new Yankees Stadium is being built almost right across the street.
