Germany, Italy, and Japan surrendered unconditionally to the Allies. Michael Montagne
Mussolini's Italy and Hitler's Germany were completely obliterated, and both were occupied by the nations which had conquered them. Germany was split in two, and one half became Communist and one half became Capitalist. Japan, after feeling the impact of two atomic bombs, surrendered to the United States on board the USS Missouri. The US controlled Japan for some time afterward until they were independent enough to deal with the war's aftermath.
