Jules Rimet Trophy
The inaugural FIFA World Cup took place in 1930. The original world cup known as the 'Jules Rimet Trophy' named after the 3rd President of FIFA was designed by French sculptor Abel Lafleur. The trophy was given to Brazil after they won the world cup for the third time in 1970. It was stolen in 1983 and has never been recovered.
They got to keep the Jules Rimet in 1970 because they had won the World Cup 3 times. This was written in the original rules of the Trophy when it was first awarded in 1930.
In 1970 Brazil decided to recommission the trophy because the previous one was from 1930. This new cup was later stolen in 1983 and never found again by the authorities.
