Mike Shanahan was first with the Broncos in the 1984 season as the quarterback coach. He stayed with Denver, becoming the offensive coordinator in 1986, through 1987 and then took the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Raiders. After being fired by the Raiders 4 games into his second season, he returned to the Broncos as QB coach through the 1991 season when he was fired for becoming embroiled in a feud between then coach Dan Reeves and QB John Elway. He went to the 49ers and was their offensive coordinator between 1992-1994 before returning to the Broncos as head coach for the 1995 season.
