the team that is the New York Jets was formerly the New York Titans...they changed their name to Jets upon moving to Shea Stadium, where planes from nearby LaGuardia Airport frequently flew overhead

The Jets and the Giants both represent New York, however some people say that Long Islanders hold a special place in their heart for the Jets. When you look at a recent Facebook analysis that appeared in the Huffington Post, you see a clear love for the Jets in most of New York City - Manhattan, Queens, Bronx and Brooklyn.

There are two explanations for this:

1) Shea stadium in Queens housed the Jets from 1964-1983 which could be why you see more Jets fans around there.

2) The Jets trained on Long Island at Hofstra for a long time.
