Second place. It's widely known they got cheated out of the Stanley Cup by Gary Bettman and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Don't forget hiring Kerry Frasier to ref game 7 as well.

The most recent Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup was the 1993 Montreal Canadiens. Five Stanley Cup Finals since then have had a Canadian team lose to an American team: 1994 New York Rangers defeated Vancouver Canucks, 2004 Tampa Bay Lightning defeated Calgary Flames, 2006 Carolina Hurricanes defeated Edmonton Oilers, 2007 Anaheim Ducks defeated Ottawa Senators, and 2011 Boston Bruins defeated Canucks. The last Finals to be played between two Canadian teams was in 1989, when the Calgary Flames defeated the Canadiens.
The Tampa Bay Lightning won the cup in the 2003 - 2004 season against the Calgary Flames in seven games
Calgary Flames in 7 games (Of course, there are those who will say that the Flames REALLY defeated the Lightning in 6 games. Replays showed that on what would have been the winning goal by Martin Gelinas late in Game 6 the puck actually crossed the goal line briefly before being kicked out by Lightning goalie Nicolai Khabibuhlin. The officials did not catch it however and the play was never reviewed by the NHL's War Room in Toronto.)
Ruslan Fedotenko had 2 goals in a 2 - 1 victory in game 7 of the 04 - 05 season where the Lightning beat the Calgary Flames.
The Mets did not make the playoffs in the 2004 season. The Atlanta Braves made the playoffs from the National League East Division and the Houston Astros made the playoffs as the wild card.
